10 Ways to Make your laptop battery last longer!!
1. Take care of your battery– Exercise the Battery. Do not leave a charged battery dormant for long periods of time. Once charged, you should at least use the battery at least once every two to three weeks.
2. DO NOT let a Li-ion Battery completely discharge- NEVER, EVER! it will reduce the life of your battery. Most batteries will last 2 years or more if properly taken care of, if you get less than a year take a look at your use practices! . (Discharging completely is only for older batteries with memory effects)
3. Keep your fans clean! Make sure your computer vents are clear and clean. Check out your laptop mfg website for details on how to properly clean your air vents. Clogged air vents can not only make your laptop inefficient, but it can cause permanent damage to your computer.
4. Keep the air moving! -Contrary to the name "laptop" it should not go directly on your lap, a pillow, blanket or anything else that can suffocate your vents /laptop. Always use your laptop on a solid surface, if not a table how about a hard back book or a piece of wood!
5. Set up your power options – Diming your screen, choosing your sleep mode and more can be done through your power options and help save your battery charge time and battery life.
6. Cut down external devices-USB devices (including your mouse), ipod, wireless and more drain down your laptop battery, while most of the effects from this is temporary (lessens your charge time), it is always good practice to unplug or shut them down when not in use.
7. Remove the CD / DVD from your drive - while it seems like a good idea to leave a CD or DVD in your optical drive, it is not, your drive will always want to run that disk, the best practice is to remove the disk when you are not using it. Not only will this cut down on things "running" on your computer but it will also save your optical drive
8. Add more RAM (Memory) - Memory is an easy thing to upgrade. Most computers have at least 4GB of RAM (Memory). Memory helps you open and close things faster, it is a temporarily place to store "information". If you want to see how much your device can hold, we recommend you visit crucial dotcom and use your best judgment if you need to add RAM. Remember some operating systems can only read a certain amount of RAM, so don't go overboard!
9. Hibernate not standby - Although placing a laptop in standby mode saves some power and you can instantly resume where you left off, it doesn’t save anywhere as much power as the hibernate function does. Hibernating a PC will actually save your PC’s state as it is, and completely shut itself down.
10.Turn off your laptop - If you are not going to use your laptop for more than 5 hours, turn it off. Not only does this save energy, but it will save your laptop too! It clears old memory items from your daily tasks, it helps reduce the wear and tear on your laptop and battery overall! So turn it off!
